Since I first layed my eyes on and later
built the 2001 West Honda Pons NSR I've liked this team. My liking
is based more upon the bike design than riders or other factors.
White and black looks great and attracts me. Cause the 2001 bike
turned out to be a great build I couldn't resist getting the decals
for the 2002 bike when Museum Collection released them.
My idea was to compeat with this bikes and the Fortuna and
Teléfonica test RCV:s in the Swedish IPMS-open in the en of March
2004. My decision was made around christmas and it felt like enough
time to finish them. Well, it wasn't...every day of the last week I
sat long after midnight and the question is whether the clear paint
had dried or not in time for the contest.
Tried the tech tip to spray X-56 through a mesh over X-18 to
recreate carbon fibre. Smaller parts look great but larger areas
like the stand turned out looking like crap so I painted them black
again.
Unfortunately MC has left out the white sheets for the side fairings
and I wasn't too keen on painting them with the airbrush cause they
fade from white to black. Later on Studio 27 released the same sheet
and I bought this one as well wich made this kit pretty expensive. S27 has a good reputation
and the West RCV ones are no exception. The carrier film is kept to
a minimum and they fall in place allmost by them self. Was a bit
scared for starting the large side fairing decals but with MicroSet
and a hot damp towel they got there as well. I chose to build Alex
Barros' bike from the Valencia GP. You have the possibility to make
Tohru Ukawas bike from qualifying at the same GP or Barros' Pacific
GP bike.
As with the West NSR ´01 the black/white livery is a
real killer. Enjoyed building the kit and it took
first place in the motorbike class at IPMS Open Stockholm 2004, scoring 82 points out of 100.
