Lovely looking bike wich I had the oportunity to take a look at in the mid nineties. Kit has tank and seat cowling in one piece. Not even the front fender has to be glued together as with most Tamiya models. The box contains a lot of parts and over all it is a model that doesn't follow the standard NSR and YZR type of builds. This meens the building process needs some thinking due to the fact that it isn't a standard bike. Many new parts to study and it will pay off to take a deep dive into the instructions and reference photos before starting. It is pretty easy to attatch a part a bit too early. Reference photos of the bike is a bit rare, much due to the low quantity produced of the bike but there are pictures, especially of the engine due to the same thing, it's rare and very high tech.
If you just follow the instructions carefully the assembly will be pretty straight forward. The only thing that got me stuck scrathing my head was the rear axel screw that holds. What I missed is that the screw has to go through the swing arm, wheel and brake disc before you attach the chain.. It took some heavy thinking to find out why the screw wasn't long enough.
The date of finishing the build ended up into 2003 because I didn't put the wind shield in place before that.

Drilled out the holes in the brake discs.
The model comes with see-through upper fairings to let you see engine details when assembled. I don't like this feature very much and decided to paint these too. The instructions call for white primer, a couple of layers Italian red (TS-8) finishing off with Flourescent red (TS-36) to get the right color match of the original bike. Pretty much painting to do. Lazy me skipped the primer and was left with slightly see-through fairings anyway. The TS-8 and TS-36, as is many other Tamiya laquers, are slightly transparent in direct light. SO...if you're planning to paint the side fairings, do prime!

Note that parts B5 (plus opposite side part included in the frame) and rear view mirrors also shall be painted red. B5 comes in black plastic and I had a hard time to get the slightly transparent red to cover it up, even with primer...

Top cowling, lower fairing and tank is to some extent covered with CF decals to symbolise parts that aren't painted on the original bike. The decals did set very well even withot softener. Upper cowling and tank shall have some areas painted black before attaching carbon fibre decals. I masked the areas off using Tamiya masking tape, and was left with a really good result.

Nice looking bike wich could have turned out better if I had some skill... I had not learned to thin the acrylics which led to visible paint brush strokes. A LOT of finger prints in semi dry paint (before I learned to use gloves while painting). I also painted the fairings and cowling parts with too heavy coats of TS-17.
